Herbal infusions have played a significant role in Crete’s history. The gods dined on sage, heroes were crowned with laurel, and mint was worn at special festivals. Crete is a botanist’s paradise with a large number of plant species including a large share of endemic plants.
Many of these plants are aromatic herbs, which have played a central role in Cretan folklore, folk medicine, culture and cuisine. Sarandadendri (meaning 40 trees) is a unique Cretan infusion with healing & calming properties.
